History of the Songs

It was March 2007, months after the return from Patmos when one night around midnight, after I had retired for the evening, I suddenly became wide awake and felt the inspiration to write the words to the song “Something I’m supposed to be”. The words flowed in the middle of the night and next morning I found myself at the piano composing the melody. By the afternoon the whole manuscript was complete.

Each night and day the same pattern followed as the 12 songs, which now corresponded with the number of stars in the Woman’s crown were completed over the twelve days…

I had never composed anything before, except the Marian Valley theme song which took me weeks, and I have not attempted anything since.

Within months, I recorded a basic demo tape at the home of Paul Keys, from Christian Radio, Brisbane. He liked the songs and encouraged me to take them further when finances allowed.

Three years earlier I had been led to seek the musical services of David Willis, from the Australian Talent School on the Gold Coast. I had been given his card by a lone visitor to Marian Valley who approached me one rare morning when we both happened to be there together. I have never seen her since. She told me to seek him out if I ever wanted anything done and sent me a note the following day with his details. As this was July 2005 when I was still living in Canungra with no thought of pursuing such things, it seemed folly to accept the offer but I kept her letter and the contact.

But July 2008 saw unexpected financial assistance arrive for the advancement of the songs and so I resurrected the note and contacted David, who accepted my proposal to record the songs.

His twin brother, Geoff, was to arrange the songs and David produced them over the following months.

In January 2009 David Willis was to present me with a new song “Christmas Lullaby” written by Jason R. Brown. The words to this song could not have been more appropriate for my situation but Dave was totally unaware of my story at this time. So impressed by the words and music of this unusual song I since recorded it with Geoff and David and now offer it as a single CD for your interest along with my own songs.

My sincere thanks and gratitude go to David and Geoff Willis; also to Paul Keys for his initial encouragement.
